PHILADELPHIA (January 8, 2015) – Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP is pleased to announce that on behalf of its client, Broad Band iTV (BBiTV), it has been successful in defeating an attempt by Unified Patents, Inc. to initiate an Inter Partes Review before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board against BBiTV’s patent.

Panitch Schwarze is counsel of record in a litigation alleging infringement of this patent directed to migration of content into video-on-demand systems against Time Warner Cable and Hawaiian Telecom. Unified Patents subsequently sought Inter Partes Review, alleging that the patent was invalid for obviousness. Panitch Schwarze filed a preliminary response on behalf of the patent owner, and on Monday, the PTAB declined to institute an Inter Partes Review proceeding.

John D. Simmons, Stephen E. Murray, and Dennis J. Butler were involved at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
