PHILADELPHIA (January 2019) – The Philadelphia-based intellectual property lawyers of Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP are pleased to announce that Stephen E. Murray has been named a partner of the IP law firm.
Primarily focusing his practice on patents and intellectual property strategy, Murray has considerable experience with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and has handled a number of post-grant proceedings on behalf of both petitioners and patent owners in front of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He also has experience in patent litigation, and has experience with the preparation and conducting of trials and hearings.

Murray focuses his practice on securing and administering patents for clients in many technology industries, including mechanical and electrical devices, optics (including devices such as lasers, barcode scanners, imagers and portable data terminals),the semiconductor or solid-state field (including semiconductor manufacturing and computer memory), and in video gaming, such as arcade machines and programming. Murray has further successfully assisted clients in inter partes reviews and reexaminations in these same industries, and has conducted oral argument before the PTAB in a number of those cases.

Murray is registered to practice before the U. S. Patent & Trademark Office and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and District Courts for Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He also is on the Board of the Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, where he co-chairs the Chamber’s Technology Committee, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Murray repeatedly has been named a Pennsylvania Rising Star as part of the Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers Program, and has been recognized among the Best Lawyers in America in intellectual property for 2019.
Earning a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in physics at Temple University, Murray was awarded the Otto Kurschner Award for Excellence in Science for attaining the highest scholastic average of graduating students concentrating in biology, biochemistry, geology, or physics. He continued his education at Temple University to receive his law degree. Following graduation, he worked as an attorney for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP before joining Panitch Schwarze. He lives in Abington.
