USPTO Granted Authority to Extend Deadlines During Coronavirus Pandemic
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has been given the temporary authority to extend filing deadlines for patents and trademarks in an effort to mitigate the effects of the ongoing pandemic on the office’s functioning.
The $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act includes a provision giving temporary authority to the USPTO director to “toll, waive, adjust, or modify, any timing deadline … if the Director determines that the emergency related to such period materially affects the functioning of the Patent and Trademark Office.”
