PHILADELPHIA (June 7, 2012) – Panitch Schwarze co-sponsors Fox 29’s “Good Day” television personality Jennaphr Frederick as she participated in the inaugural Amateur Bicycling Open on Sunday, June 3. The race consisted of a 14.5-miles circuit that started at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and included a climb up the steep, 800-metre hill known as “The Wall” in Manayunk. Frederick participated in the race to raise money for Mommy’s Light, a charity that benefits maternally bereaved children and teens.
Mommy’s Light was started in 1997 by Mary Murphy who herself was diagnosed with cancer. Her and her ten-year-old son came up with the idea of continuing their tradition of making butter cookies at Christmastime to help him during his grieving process. Mary soon realized that other children whose mothers had died could benefit from continuing the traditions and simple pleasures they once shared and began the “Mommy’s Light Lives On” Fund in 1997. The organization helps support “tradition requests” and funds each child’s wish annually until the child turns 18.
