Details: Panitch Schwarze attorney Charles F. Wieland III will moderate a webinar titled “Balancing Innovation and Protection: Unravelling the Impact of the EU AI Act on IP Law Counsel,” co-presented by Panitch Schwarze and Marcus Evans Online Events. Participants include Henrik Trasberg, Legal Advisor on AI and New Technologies to Estonia’s Ministry of Justice, Jan-Willem Goedmakers, Head of Intellectual Property at Stamicarbon, and Nicolas Grunder, Chief Counsel of Digital & Data Privacy at ABB.

The discussion will focus on the implications of the EU AI Act on intellectual property law and how these regulations protect the interests of creators and inventors. Participants will explore how the EU AI Act intends to support existing laws in tackling the challenges created by artificial intelligence and how this legislation will affect the daily operations and responsibilities of IP law counsel. The presentation will also highlight IP-specific challenges that remain unsolved with this new AI regulation.

Wieland focuses his practice on patent law. He protects his clients’ IP rights through licensing, assignment, and when necessary, litigation. His clients range from startups to Fortune 100 companies, both domestic and international, and he helps these businesses steer clear of interference from the IP rights of others with design-around recommendations, validity, infringement, and clearance/freedom-to-operate studies, both formal and informal. He often negotiates and drafts software licenses and other technology transfer agreements.
