PHILADELPHIA (November 2022) – Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP partner John D. Simmons recently helped data management company Tamr secure their 16th patent in 10 years.
A client of Panitch Schwarze and a leader in data mastering, Tamr recently was awarded a patent titled Method and System for Large Scale Data Curation. The patented method allows companies to conduct schema mapping and entity resolution at the same time.
“Through this innovation, customers reduce the time it takes to realize usable results from their data, from 18+ months to just a matter of weeks,” said Nik Bates-Haus, chief architect at Tamr.
Tamr’s newest patent is a continuation of their first patent and part of the first patent family for the company. Simmons, a partner at Panitch Schwarze, has counseled the company on patent prosecution and strategy for years.
“To be awarded a patent in today’s crowded data science space is difficult. Many patent applications are rejected for not demonstrating novelty, patentable subject matter, and innovation,” said Simmons. “Tamr’s ability to secure a continuation on its original patent shows not just their history of innovation, but also their ongoing commitment to continuously delivering new data mastering solutions in new ways to respond to customer needs. Tamr’s manyfold additions to its patent portfolio are cutting edge and pioneering technologies.”
Simmons focuses his practice on intellectual property counseling and litigation including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets, and IP licenses and contracts. He has litigated cases involving a wide variety of technologies in over 25 districts throughout the United States. Simmons also practices before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board for post grant review proceedings (including inter partes reviews) and the Trademark Trial and Appeal board for oppositions and cancellation proceedings.
