Details: Panitch Schwarze attorney Erin M. Dunston will participate in a Boardside Chat webinar focused on the issues that typically arise during an America Invents Act (AIA) proceeding before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Presented by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the webinar will feature a panel that includes Eldora Ellison, Director of Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox PLLC, and USPTO Administrative Patent Judges Kevin Cherry and David Cotta.

Participants will discuss practical tips and strategies that may be effective before the PTAB when navigating AIA proceedings. Topics include the filing of multiple petitions, discretionary denial, new arguments, and deposition of expert witnesses.

Dunston focuses her practice on patent procurement, opinions, enforcement (both in district courts and before the PTAB), and portfolio strategy. With clients ranging from individual inventors to large, multi-national companies, Erin tailors her approach to each client’s goals. Erin’s matters are primarily in the life science space (small molecules, large molecules, and medical devices), but she has handled projects on subject matter ranging from precipitated silica to vaccines to radiotherapy devices.

The USPTO is the federal agency for granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks. It furthers effective IP protection for U.S. innovators and entrepreneurs worldwide by working with other agencies to secure strong IP provisions in free trade and other international agreements. It also provides training, education, and capacity-building programs designed to foster respect for IP and encourage the development of strong IP enforcement regimes by U.S. trading partners.
