Details:  Panitch Schwarze counsel Ronald J. Ventola II will moderate a panel discussion on the USPTO change from the old PAIR system and the PDF filing format to Patent Center and the new DOCX filing format. This change is happening incrementally, with some substantial steps already completed and additional changes coming at the end of 2022. 

Panelists include Rick Seidel from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; Mary VanAtten from Bristol Meyers Squibb Co.; Kevin Hawkes from Adam R. Stephenson, LTD.; and David Easwaran from Womble Bond Dickinson LLP.

The session will cover various aspects of the move to Patent Center and DOCX filing:

  • Steps already completed and upcoming steps
  • Benefits for users and for the USPTO
  • Risks and potential issues
  • Workflow and cost issues

Panelists will share perspectives on the changes from the USPTO, in-house counsel, and outside counsel from both smaller and larger firms. 

Ron is an experienced intellectual property attorney licensed in Pennsylvania and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has a broad range of experience, including counseling clients, obtaining protection, and litigating disputes under the laws governing patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
