Sandra M. Katz focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in chemical, biotechnological, and medical fields, including organic and inorganic chemical compounds and processes, batteries, inorganic devices, chemical compositions, organic and inorganic polymers, coatings and films, membranes and membrane systems, medical processes and devices, analytical systems and processes, detergents and cleaners, microelectronic devices, materials, mechanical devices, and oil and fluid compositions. She is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Dr. Katz is experienced in the areas of polymer chemistry, polysilanes and polygermanes, organometallic compounds, luminescence, homogeneous catalysis, and various analytical and spectroscopic techniques.

Prior to joining Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel, Dr. Katz was a Patent Agent at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Dr. Katz received her B.A summa cum laude in chemistry from Brandeis University in 1995 and her PhD. in inorganic and materials chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. Dr. Katz was the recipient of a National Science Foundation Summer Research Fellowship in 1993. She was the recipient of the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences Dissertation Fellowship in 1999.

Prior to entering the practice of patent prosecution, Dr. Katz was a graduate research assistant and a teaching assistant at the University of Pennsylvania and at Brandeis University. Her research resulted in publications in leading scientific journals and presentations at national chemistry meetings.

Dr. Katz is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Lambda Upsilon Chemistry Honor Society and the American Chemical Society.
