Ricardo Unikel focuses on intellectual property matters, including preparing and filing U.S. patent applications. He has extensive experience representing non-U.S. clients who wish to obtain U.S. patent protection under the Paris Convention or the PCT. His practice focuses primarily on the chemical arts and he also has experience in the mechanical, electrical, and biotechnology arts. He also has experience with patent litigation, especially in the area of pharmaceuticals.
Prior to joining Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP, Mr. Unikel was an associate at Jordan and Hamburg LLP, where his practice focused primarily on obtaining U.S. patents. He was previously an associate at Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto, where he primarily participated in pharmaceutical patent litigation. Prior to attending law school, he was a product development engineer for 3M Company, where he conducted research on polymers for adhesives and coatings.
Mr. Unikel received his J.D. in 2002 from the New York University School of Law and his B.S. in chemical engineering, with honors, in 1996 from the University of California, Berkeley. He is fluent in Spanish and has an intermediate knowledge of French.
Mr. Unikel is a member of the Pennsylvania and New York bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
