Stephen E. Murray's practice focuses on the preparation of patent applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as on new product clearance and patentability analysis. Mr. Murray also has extensive experience in the preparation, filing, and prosecution of both inter partes and ex parte reexaminations before the Patent Office. Mr. Murray concentrates primarily on the optics field, including lasers and bar code scanners, imagers, and portable data terminals, on the solid state field, including semiconductor manufacturing and computer memory, and on the video gaming entertainment field, including arcade-style gaming machines and associated programming.

Mr. Murray’s practice also focuses on patent litigation on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. Mr. Murray has experience with the preparation and conducting of trials, hearings (including claim construction, summary judgment and preliminary injunction hearings), depositions, and discovery. Mr. Murray has worked on cases involving a wide variety of technologies, including industrial machines, furnishings, food technology, and instrumentation.

Mr. Murray earned his B.S. summa cum laude in physics from Temple University. He received the Otto Kurschner Award for Excellence in Science, given to the member of the graduating class concentrating in biology, biochemistry, geology or physics who attains the highest scholastic average. He received his J.D. from the Temple University Beasley School of Law.

Mr. Murray is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office, is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bars, is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey. His article entitled “Litigation Defense Strategy: Practical Considerations in Filing for Inter Partes Re-Examination” was published in the October 2008 IP Supplement to The Legal Intelligencer.
